The Story of Mags Cue
The color pink does not connote fragility, weakness, or dependence. In contrast, it is a vibrant color which depicts strong will and determination enough to empower one. The name Mags Cue does reflect an image of a beautiful woman with a generous heart and passion for fashion. Yes, she really is. The beauty she has radiates her beautiful personality. Mags is meticulous mother, a loving wife, a generous daughter, a supportive friend. She is a successful businesswoman. Though she may be a tough boss, she is a philanthropist awarded as a best dressed woman and continues to play the role as a queen maker. The aforementioned seems a lot but she really could pull those off. That is how versatile and empowered Mags is.
Before she became Mags Cue, she was Magdalena Lopez Calpito from Batangas City. She graduated from St Bridget's College in high school and finished B.S. Psychology in Far Eastern University while working as a commercial model and a talent of Model's World. She appeared in a few TV commercial advertisements of San Miguel Beer, Citibank and in Eat Bulaga in her younger years.
After graduating from college, she got employed at Abott Philippines for two years before she married her college boyfriend who came from a different school. Mags tied the knot with a Filipino Chinese named Oliver John Cue from Cotabato City. Her husband graduated with a degree on B.S Accountancy from De La Salle University in Manila. Mags learned Fukien and Mandarin languages. Her husband works in a hardware business as the general manager, a family owned corporation while she just stays at home then.
Starting a Family Life
Mags enthusiastically recounted as regards her mommy duties,
"As a mom of four boys, it isn't that easy and I considered it the hardest but it is the most rewarding role I play in my life. I am very meticulous in our house. I want my surroundings to be clean and in order. I even make a whole month menu for our cook to assure my family eats happy. I set rules and make schedules for my housemates so that everything will always be in place even if I'm abroad."
They moved from Manila to Cagayan de Oro City immediately after she gave birth to her eldest son, Patrick John. Get this, out of boredom, she asked her husband if she could have a business of her own so she could help him earn a living. Business just comes off easily to this empowered woman! Her loving husband supported her and opened a boutique which used to sell anything and everything. Mags said, “I just love fashion that's why eventually I came up with the idea of putting up an apparel brand named after me, MAGS, which later on became a national brand”. To her surprise, she did not expect that many women will patronize and love her brand and became their favorite wardrobe. Her wardrobe business eventually grew and it still continues to.
Where Her Passion in Style and Business Brought Her
As a businesswoman, she is very hard working and passionate. During her first few years in the wardrobe and fashion business, she did the purchasing, marketing and even selling in her shops but eventually she learned how to delegate things to unload her many errands for the day. MAGS has become the favorite ladies' apparel brand of "fashionistas" and stylish ladies. Their first official and exclusive celebrity endorser was Rica Peralejo. It was followed by Cristine Reyes, Angel Aquino, Sofia Andres, Alice Dixson and currently Isabela Vinzon. MAGS has become the favorite brand of many stylists and used for fashion photo shoots, commercial print and TV advertisements and many Primetime Teleserye wardrobes of celebrities and TV hosts.
Empowered by her passion and ability to run her business, she wants to have her business open for franchising. She said, "My dream as of the moment is to be able to open our business for franchising since we have been receiving so many inquiries." MAGS is very popular in producing fashion shows for the real people and called it "MAGS ON THE CATWALK". This has boosted her brand’s publicity and audience reach. She added, "My main objective, aside from promoting MAGS, is to make women to be empowered, boost their self esteem and above all is to make them feel good about themselves. I want to show them how beautiful they are and make them realize their individuality." Her beauty is really complemented with her ideals and strong perspective for women empowerment.
Mag’s Recognition and Awards: Business and Style Go Together
'Mag Cue’s personal style brought her achievements and recognition all over the country. She was noticed by a the Philippine Cancer Society and awarded her as The Top Ten Philippine's BEST DRESSED WOMEN 2013, Rupert Jacinto's Most Fabulous Women 2014, Project Head Shot & SM Supermall's one of the COUNTRY'S TOP INSPIRING WOMEN 2015, Women and Beyond Most Influential Women in Mindanao and more. Even during her younger years she was involved with civic organizations, she was the Worthy Advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls affiliated with Masonry. Just last year, she became the President of Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban from 2017-2018 and garnered numerous awards and citations. Mags was also awarded MINDANAO GOLDSTAR DAILY People of the Year Yet, she was humbled by all of those awards and recognitions. Mags extends her gratitude to her very supportive family, friends, and colleagues who became her very good friends in her social circle.
In addition, a queen makes a queen. Mags acknowledges her role as a “queen maker”. She used to be the Social Directress of Mutya ng Pilipinas for three years and four years as the Chairman of Mutyang Pilipinas National Search. Currently, she is the Pageant Consultant of Mutya ng Pilipinas which Ms Cory Quirino sits as the President. "It is also one of my favorite things to do in my life, to search for the most beautiful Filipina because I just simply want to help young women achieve their dreams in life of becoming a beauty queen. It is really a fulfilment for me every time they were chosen and thanking you that they have been chosen most especially if they won.
Radiating Hope and Inspiration for Every Woman
Seeing women achieve their dreams really makes Mags happy. Further, she has been the Chairman of Miss Cagayan de Oro for 3 years now and staging a fabulous event in the region. MAGS has been providing wardrobe for International pageants like Miss Asia Pacific International, Miss Intercontinental to name a few, National Pageants like Mutyang Pilipinas and of local pageants as well throughout the Philippines. Judging different pageants nationwide, she saw how passionate Filipinos are with beauty pageants. She ended her statement with this inspiring take away that everyone can relate to: "All the positions, achievements, awards and success in life, I owe it to my family especially my husband for his never ending support and love for me. They are my inspirations and my strength in keeping me going but of course, to all the people who continuously believe in me". Indeed, the woman we featured is really an epitome of empowerment, perseverance, versatility, and style that she continues to spread the vibrancy of her designs to help people.
